Spain: World Champion Viswanathan Anand regained his No. 1 ranking in Chess, when he played out a hard-fought draw with Magnus Carlsen of Norway. He finished second in the Bilbao Final Masters chess tournament on Saturday. He dethroned Carlsen from the number one ranking in Live rating list for the first time since January this year.

Champ Anand will now take part in another Grand Slam event in which Carlsen will also take part in Nanjing in China.

Anand draws with Vladimir Kramnik of Russia. The draw took Kramnik near the title as he retained his two points lead over the Indian ace with just one round remaining in this category-22 double round-robin tournament between four players. Anand finished with eight points. In the final round now, Anand will need a win to be in with a chance of catching up with Kramnik or even overtaking him theoretically.

Vladimir Kramnik won the Chess Masters and eleven rating points, ahead of the 15th and reigning World Champion Viswanathan Anand. World number one Magnus Carlsen was third with a loss of nine rating points.
