Shri Ram School responds: CCTV in washroom
Gurgaon: Reacting to parents' concerns after the molestation of a primary school student in the school's toilet, The Shri Ram School, Aravali, on Thursday announced "remedial steps", including setting up CCTV cameras outside the washrooms and posting women staff on vigil in each section.
Junior school principal Manika Sharma said the boy had been "fondled" by a contract staff inside one of the junior school toilets. "It was an unfortunate incident," said Sharma. "We have handed over the suspect to the parent agency. We could not hand him over to the police as he is not employed with us," she said.
The school has assigned individual maids for each section of Pravesh Vatika, the junior school, and assured parents that CCTV cameras would be installed outside washrooms, said an e-mail written to parents. The school has also "removed all male contractual cleaning staff" and replaced them with female staff. The school has also made ID cards with photographs compulsory for contract staff and asked teachers to monitor them.
"The parents are definitely concerned and therefore we are planning to arrange workshops to educate parents as well as teachers and sensitise them regarding such issues," explained Sharma.
"Counsellors are conducting sessions across the Junior School on what comprises a 'good touch and bad touch' to give our children the life skills to protect themselves," the letter said.
