Bangalore | Oct 21, 2010
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, facing heat in the wake of political turmoil, today exhorted officials to ensure that it did not cast its shadow on the development activities in the state and sought their cooperation in accelerating the pace of progress.
Addressing heads of various government departments -- principal secretaries and secretaries-- at a meeting he convened here, Yeddyurpapa was candid in admitting that the spate of political developments that swept the state have impacted the administrative machinery.
The media has also been projecting that inertia has gripped the administration and the same view seemed to have crept into the minds of public.
"Whatever may be the ebbs and tides of political developments, it should not influence administration and become a stumbling block for development works", said Yeddyurappa whose government has been facing crisis since early this month in the aftermath of some BJP MLAs withdrawing support. He took floor test twice in a space of four days.
The media criticism against the working of the government has created a negative image to his government. He wanted the officials and his ministers to offer clarifications to dispel such doubts.
Speaking to reporters later, Yeddyurappa claimed from April to August during this fiscal, his government has achieved 29 per cent higher progress in implementing development programmes compared to last year.
As against Rs 7,108 crore expenditure incurred on plan programmes during 2009-10, it has shot up by Rs 2,095 crore touching Rs 9,203 crore in 2010-11.
He said of the 58 new schemes announced in this year's budget, orders have been issued for 25 and on the rest, they would be issued by November 15.
The distribution of sarees, medical check up programme for ten lakh beneficiaries identified under the girl child insurance scheme "Bhagyalakshmi" would start from October 28 in ten districts commencing from Tumkur district.
He said he would be touring districts from October 27 and review progress of development works.
In November, a "Manthan" (brainstorming) session would be held for ministers and also officials separately to take stock of the progress made, Yeddyurappa said.
