Infosys plans to set up new China campus

Infosys is planning to strengthen its China operations by putting in about $100 million in the near future. The company also plans to increase its headcount there to 4,000 from the present 2,850. The number is expected to cross 20,000 “at some point in the future,” chairman and managing director Kris Gopalakrishnan said.
“We now see the need to create a campus there and this is what we have initiated and are in discussions with the government there about getting land. And after we get the land, we will plan to build,” Gopalakrishnan said while speaking on the sidelines of a CII event in the city.
In a bid to stem attrition in the company, Infosys plans to give promotions to 12,000 employees in the month of October. The promoted employees would also be given pay hikes, Gopalakrishnan said.
Talking about growing attrition levels, he says the phenomenon is not limited to Infosys. “Across the board, attrition has gone up. This is a result of growth coming back. We were not prepared or ready to take advantage of this growth. There was a scramble in recruitment across the companies which resulted in movement of employees from one firm to another firm,” he explains.
Speaking on the Telangana agitation, Gopalakrishnan said it would have a negative impact on brand Hyderabad. The issue remained the top concern on the minds of firms doing business in the city, he said.
“Clearly this is a concern. We have to ensure the safety of our employees and there is no discontinuity in the business environment. Especially for the BPO industry, any breakage in services creates significant loss in revenues,” he added.
