Abu Dhabi: Mathematician Anand Kumar of Super 30, at the behest of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Abu Dhabi India School in Abu Dhabi on Friday and Saturday, gave separate lectures on education system and other issues concerning education among the poor and underprivileged children.
Speaking at the ICAI, Anand said inclusive education was the key to progress.
"In India, education has caught the fancy of even the poorest sections of the society. This is what is making the big difference. People have learnt to appreciate the importance of education and are ready to sacrifice even their land and cattle – their main source of income for the poor – for their wards' studies," he said.
Giving examples of some of the students of Super 30, for whom cracking the IIT-JEE brought about a new social awakening; he said such success stories had inspired thousands of others in the remotest corners of Bihar and country. “The journey, however, has just begun. We still have a long way to go,” Anand said.
Anand KumarDescribing how he started the Super 30, Anand said that he had set up the Ramanujam School of Mathematics back in 1992 and gradually started giving coaching to students at a nominal fee.
"Having experienced the pangs of poverty, I always wanted to do something for the poor students who came to my coaching. This resulted in Super 30 in 2002,” he said.
Kumar also addressed the students and teachers at the Indian School, which was followed by an interactive Q&A session during which he answered several questions about mathematics and key to success in education.
"It is not without a reason that the US President Barack Obama is also talking about the Indian education system,” he said.
Well-known Indian singer Sunidhi Chouhan was also present on the occasion.
The program was coordinated by Rajiv Shah.
Earlier guests of the ICAI include eminent personalities like former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, KV Kamath, TN Manoharan, and Mani Shankar Aiyar.
