India's BHEL wins US$7.9 mln deal to build solar power plants

NEW DELHI, Oct 21, 2010 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) --
India's state-run BHARAT HEAVY ELECTRICALS LIMITED (BHEL, BSE: 500103) on Wednesday said it has bagged contracts worth Rs 35 crore (US$7.9 million) to set up grid-interactive solar power plants of 1100 kW capacity at eight locations in the union territory of Lakshadweep. "Valued at around Rs 35 crore, the order for setting up the Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) power plants at eight islands of Lakshadweep, including the capital Kavaratti, has been placed on the company by Lakshadweep Administration," a company statement said.
* BHEL's scope of work in the contract envisages design, manufacture, supply and installation of new solar power plants of 1,100 kW, the statement added.
* The Lakshadweep administration has also asked the company to renovate existing solar power plants of 800 kW at these islands.
