Dehu Road Cantt Board schools get 52 computers from Infosys

IT major Infosys has donated 52 computers to schools of the Dehu Road Cantonment Board. “The computers were provided free of cost last week by Infosys and this will boost our initiative in creating computer awareness,” said N M Mahajani, spokesman of Dehu Road Cantonment Board.

There are 13 schools under the board and each school got four computers, he said, adding that the cantonment board had approached Infosys to help fund its computer literacy initiative. “We have already approached a company to train our staff in computers so that they can further train the students,” said Mahajani. “We feel it is important for the students to be trained in computer education as computers have become major facilitators of knowledge,” added Mahajani. He said this was a major donation of its kind ever for the board schools.

The Board hopes to increase the roll of its students in its schools after introducing the computer literacy programmes. The Cantonment Board schools have been witnessing a drop in rolls and it has already decided to close some schools where the student count has seen a decline. “One of our officials Raju Jadhav and social activist Ajit Pinjan were in constant touch with Infosys and their effort has brought results now,” added Mahajani.
