BJP today said the Centre should initiate or facilitate a process of dialogue to arrive at a negotiated settlement between Hindus and Muslims on Ayodhya issue in the wake of the Allahabad high court judgment on Ayodhya title suits.
A negotiated settlement would be a desirable option as disposal of an appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court would be a time-consuming process, party spokesman Prakash Jawdekar told reporters here.
"The people are expecting an early and peaceful solution after the judgement. The central government should, therefore, initiate or facilitate a dialogue between the two communities to arrive at a negotiated settlement", he said.
Jawadekar said the restrained reaction in the society to the verdict showed that the mood was for an amicable solution of the issue to build a Ram temple at Ayodhya.
He parried a question as to what bearing the Ram temple issue would have on BJP's politics after the HC judgment.
"We have always maintained that it is a matter of faith", Jawadekar added.
