500 dope tests and 0 positive. CWG organisers say ‘wow’
(TODAY ONE NAME CAME UP...VIBHA)
The CWG 2010 may have been mired in a number of controversies from the word go but there is one bit of news that couldn’t have been any better. In over 500 dope tests conducted so far in the competition, not a single report has come ‘positive’. Yes, that’s right. It has been a dope-free Games so far.
New Delhi: Grappling with a slew of glitches halfway through the mega event, the Commonwealth Games are at least free from doping controversies with the 500 tests conducted so far returning negative.
Commonwealth Games Federation President Michael Fennell said at the customary press conference today that the initial target of 1,500 tests to be conducted during the Games still stands.
"As of Friday just over 500 dope tests have been conducted. According to results as of Thursday (as it take 24 hours to get result) all the tests have returned negative (for any banned substance)," Fennell said.
He said the original target of 1,500 tests to be conducted during the Games will be met despite only 500 samples being taken halfway through the Games.
"The pre-Games target of conducting 1,500 tests still stands. It will be met," he said. Fennell said the media coverage of the Games has been extensive but some reports were published "without proper verification."
