Indian security forces on Friday evening blasted off the house in which five Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were hiding, killing all of them. A solider was also killed in the encounter. Major General Ravi Thodge, General Officer Commanding, Kilo (counter insurgency) Force said with the elimination of top commanders Hamad and Saqib, the militant outfit has suffered a serious setback in north Kashmir in general and in Lolab Valley in particular. The GoC said efforts of the security forces ensured that the occupants of the house were moved out safely before the firefight started. Earlier, unconfirmed reports suggested that the militants had taken some people hostage. Earlier, in June another top Lashkar commander Zebran was killed by the army in the jungles of Rajwar-Handwara. “These two operational successes in quick succession has seriously undermined the operational capability of Lashkar in North Kashmir”, Maj Gen Thogde said.
