(If joining politics could solve their problems in rising....they must do that, but with this vow that they will fight against all wrongs and ills of society,in their community,in Politics and contribute in "Rise of India"!!!..Take everyone along in Rising India...even female's should think about it,if its feasible(one can read hint of "women's bill here as well,as even Tribals has women"....otherwise one can contribute constructivly by whatever work they're doing !!!....VT)
KOTPAD: Rahul Gandhi offered to help tribals rise like other communities during his visit to Maoist-ravaged Koraput district bordering Chhatisgarh on Wednesday.
Speaking at a closed-door youth interaction programme (which this correspondent attended posing as a Youth Congress worker) at Kotpad, 75 km from Koraput, Rahul asked tribals to join politics so that they can take up their problems with the government. "You should come forward. I'm here to help you," the Gandhi scion said as his local followers fired one intelligent question after another.
Akbar Khan, a native of poverty-stricken Bolangir, asked how people without money, muscle power or a political background could survive in politics. "You ask us to join politics. Where do we stand in the age of power politics. Can we survive in the the present political system where social service is meaningless. What role can someone like me without money nor muscle power have in politics?" he questioned.
Rahul, in his turn, explained, "It's true that power politics influences today's political scenario. But it's for a short period, maybe for a single time. In the long-run, power politics won't work. One has to go to the public to get elected. People won't vote you if you haven't done good work."
Describing the Youth Congress as "a platform of people without any political background," the young Gandhi said, "Here all officer-bearers, right from the block to the national level, are elected. Any dedicated worker, irrespective of his financial position or geographical location, can reach the top because of his good work."
Prasanna Majhi from Nabrangpur asked how tribals can progress when they're not given loans for setting up small-scale industries. He added, "Tribals can get only agricultural and horticultural loans if they mortage their land. I've 15 acres of agricultural land, of which I want to mortgage at least 10 acres for a loan to start a small-scale industry at my village. But bank officials don't want to give me any money."
Rahul quipped, "You suggest what we could do in this regard." In reply, Majhi said, "We need to amend the existing law and allow tribals to take industrial loans." Rahul quickly answered, "Now you're approaching me with your problems. I want more and more tribal youths like you to join politics so that you could place your problems in Delhi."
Joining the conversation, a girl added, "I'm a Dalit Christain but I'm deprived of the benefits meant for Dalits. If India is a secular country, why am I not treated on a par with other SCs." In reply, Rahul said, "It's a complex matter. I'm hopeful something could be done in this regard."
When asked if there'll be any change in the government's stand on mining in Niyamgiri after Jairam Ramesh's exit from the environment ministry, Rahul said, "It doesn't matter who remains in the ministry. I am involved in tribals's fight against mining in Niyamgiri and at no cost, their tribals interest will be put at stake."
