Coming up, a police university open to civilians too

(GOOD! 'SHOOL' MOVIE SHOWS OUR POLICE IN VERY GOOD 'LIGHT' BUT CYNICISM SHOWN IN THAT MOVIE,WHICH WAS REFLECTED IN MASS REACTION AFTER 26/11/2009 MUMBAI ATTACK ALSO. ITS NOT WRONG,BUT ITS BETTER IF WE KEEP OUR BALANCE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, IT HAS CHANGED INTO SOLUTION FINDING PROCESS IN THESE FEW YEARS,WHEN PEOPLE'S HATRED FOR POLITICIANS CHANGED AND THEY HAS SHOWN SAYING WE WANT TO BE 'PM'....SERIALS LIKE 'PRADHAN MANTRIJI, JI MANTRIJI, NETAJI KAHIN,...EVEN FEW VERY GOOD MOVIES ALSO LIKE RAJNITI,'SATTA','GODMOTHER',(IT WAS BASED ON THE LIFE OF A LADY UNDERWORLD DON OF MUMBAI)...WHICH SHOWS THESE POLITICIANS IN BIT POSITIVE LIGHT,SO AS IT MADE PEOPLE THINK,IF ONE WANT CAN BE IN POLITICS,STILL CAN BE CLEAN AND CAN TRY TO WORK HONESTLY...IT MEANS HOPES IN PEOPLE'S MIND HAS ARISEN,THOUGH ONE CAN CONTRIBUTE IN SOCIETY AND TO COUNTRY WITHOUT BEING CORRUPT AND BEING HONEST ANYWHERE IN ANY PROFESSION,OR AS A HOUSE WIFE OR A KID. OR CAN BE DEMANDING BY ASKING FOR GOVERNMENT OR LEADERS OF THEIR AREA WHAT THEY HAVE DONE AND NOT DONE AND WHY NOT DONE???...BEFORE GIVING VOTES.!!! AND DEFINITLY NEED TO INTROSPECT IF THEY ALL TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES TOWARDS SELF AND FAMILY HONESTLY???...AS SOCIETY AND COUNTRY WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF AUTOMATICALLY IF EVERY INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY ARE HAPPY!!!...THOUGH IF ANYONE HAS CAPABILITY OF GUIDING OTHERS THEY SHOULD DO THAT AS WELL.)

People with an interest in criminology need not restrict themselves to thrillers and television. A police university, the first of its kind, is coming up, probably in Mumbai, and will provide formal degrees in subjects ranging from investigation to forensic science.

Any person with an interest in learning about the force can apply for admission, once the guide lines are formulated. People within the force too can enter to learn more about a particular subject.

The university is being set up by the state government with 90 per cent funding by the Centre, the idea having been approved by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. Still in the initial stages, it is expected to be in operation after two or three years.

The Director General of Police drafted the proposal for its structure only recently. Officials, how ever, said it would offer certificate as well as degree courses.

"Police in recent years has become a subject in itself. The idea is to open up new vistas in the police force and give a chance to the common man to participate with the police. Students completing the course may get a chance to work in co-ordination with the police," said Additional DG (law and order) K P Raghuvanshi.

If Mumbai has a space crunch, the university could come up either in Raigad or between Mum bai and Pune.

"The police force is no more just about investigations but specialised fields like forensic science, behavioural science. Often we have trouble finding professionals for specialised cases. The university through its programmes could help in giving us such professionals,'" said principal secretary (Home) P K Jain.

The courses are expected to deal with all aspects of the force: structure, hierarchy, rules and regulations, protocol, duties and responsibilities, investigation aspects, behavioural science, hostage situations, terror attacks and forensic science.

Specialists and crime academicians from across the world, including the top brass of the Indian and Mumbai police, would also be invited to deliver guest lectures. Once a student completes a course, the Maharashtra police may give him or her, depending on merit, an opportunity to work directly with the police force.

Another new scheme for politicians to make money. What is going to happen after the individuals graduate. Even if they get on to work with law enforcement/agencies and the police forces, would that make them any better performers of their duties. They will be only under political pressure dancing to the music of others. When the beauracracy of our nation is so bad, no institution run by it will prosper for the good.

First we need good governance and then anything else will make any sense.

Policemen are a trained lot. They are trained by the respective states which recruit them. All the people who are recruited to police force from IPS to a constable are educated people. However, it is another thing that they forget all their education and training and remember only one art "HOW TO EXTORT money. They practice this art to perfection and know how best to exploit the situation to their favour. They do not need a police university. What they need is honesty, sincerity and commitment to their duty.

Really a gr8 news, carefully implemented can bring down the crime and corruption.

I wd also be interested to join, if there is no age limits, or reservations come in.

Courses should also be started in Areas like All Metros, North-eastern parts of India where we have more population than the POLICE alone could do anything. We need public participation in these places to curb the terrorism and anti social elements.

THIS IS THE STEP which will make POLICE ARE PUBLIC FRIENDS statement into a reality.
