Games publicity unlikely to deter foreign investors: Montek
Associated Press, 26 September, 2010 (Kuala Lumpur)
Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said that foreign investors are unlikely to be put off by the bad publicity India has received over the Commonwealth Games.
Montek Singh Ahluwalia says investors will instead look at India's economic track record and policies, which have helped its economy grow at an average of 8.37 percent annually since 2004.
Ahluwalia, a key economic policymaker, was speaking to reporters after giving a speech at a capital markets symposium.
The Oct. 3-14 games have beset by mismanagement, shoddy infrastructure and corruption allegations.
Ahluwalia says India will hold the games successfully and the criticism heaped on the organizers and the government will not have a "lasting effect."
