Ajmer jail overcrowded with terrorist prisoners

AJMER: Considering the numbers of hardcore terrorists in Ajmer Central Jail security ought to be very tight here. At present there are 16 convicted terrorists facing life sentence and six are undertrials charged with terrorist activities. The most important are Jalees Ansari and Habib, who were the masterminds of Mumbai serial bomb blast and also accused in Purohit ji ka Kalla blast of Jaipur in 1990.
According to officials, there were 20 terrorists who were convicted by the TADA court of Ajmer who have been shifted to various jails in the state to avoid "grouping". Jalees Ansari, Jamal Ulahak, Habib and Arbe Rehman Ansari are convicted in Mumbai bomb blast and also facing trial in Jaipur bomb blast in 1990," said Jag Pal Singh Sodhi, advocate of the accused terrorists.
He said with them are Kripal Singh and Braj Mohan facing trial for terrorist activity. They were arrested with the weapons which they were taking in a truck from Jammu to Mumbai before 29/11. There are also a large numbers of convicts who were arrested for smuggling and drug dealing.
The capacity of the jail is said to be of about 900 prisoners, but it usually holds more than one thousand prisoners. "Mostly for security reasons, courts send the history-sheeters and suspicious Bangladeshis to this prison and that prison is overcrowded," said an official.
