Give more tickets to youth leaders: Rahul Gandhi
(check how many ticket he has given to youth in this election??..only giving ticket won't do,malpractices and corruption free electoral process will invite and attract more clean/young people in politics!!....vibha)
New Delhi: Batting for a greater share in ticket allocation for youth leaders, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Sunday vowed to demolish the “wall” which was preventing the young people from joining the party.
“It is sad that youths have enthusiasm for work but they are not getting a chance,” the scion of Nehru-Gandhi family said addressing a convention of district and block level party office bearers here.
“My age is not such that I can advise the leaders sitting here. Youth in India has no parallel in the world. This youth power has the potential to bring fast change, the country needs it and it is our responsibility to use youth in our nation’s development,” the 38-year-old Congress general secretary said.
While harping on the democratisation of Indian Youth Congress in Punjab and Uttarakhand, Rahul said that youth can get an opportunity through Congress organisations to be involved in nation building, “but for that we will have to open the closed doors of our organisation.”
“Youths have an idealistic outlook but there are doubts among the youth over politics as if there is a wall. We will demolish this wall in near future,” Rahul said.
Addressing the youth leaders he said, “you work day and night but when time for election comes you do not get chance to contest.”
Rahul also admitted shortcomings in the youth organisation of the party saying, “youth do not get entry into this organisation easily and require money and recommendation for it.
He said that unless these shortcomings are removed, the effort to empower youth will remain incomplete.
“Those who some how manage to join, still need the same for progress. Youths say that they do not get recognition for their work,” he said, adding there should be only one benchmark for partymen “their work” and the organisations would respect them.
Rahul spoke of his efforts during the last two years to remove these shortcomings from Youth Congress and NSUI.
He claimed that membership in Youth Congress of Punjab went up from 40,000 to 3.5 lakh. “In Uttarakhand 16% students are NSUI members. Over 4000 youth leaders have come from Punjab and Uttarakhand through elections.”
“Those who work will be promoted,” he said.
By choosing leaders Punjab and Uttarakhand have taken revolutionary steps, he said and hoped that Congress would give tickets in elections to these future leaders.
Rahul also announced that in the next two years election will be held in all states and the “new army of youth” will be readied by these organisations.
Hailing the performance of the UPA government on various fronts, he said the biggest achievement was that Congress never drifted from its ideology.
Invoking Mahatma Gandhi, Rahul said the UPA policies and action are in line with his philosophy for the development of the poor and the common man.
“Congress fulfilled all promises it made five years back and the biggest achievement in these five years is that we never drifted from our ideology,” he said.
Gandhi also hoped that the Congress party would field these leaders from constituencies where the party feels it is in a weak position.
