PATNA: Bihar's maths wizard Anand Kumar, whose Super-30 initiative has seen hundreds of poor students cracking IITJEE over the years, has made it to the list of world's extraordinary personalities, prepared by European magazine 'Focus'. 'Focus' is published by Italy's biggest publishing house Arnoldo Mondadori Editore.
"Such recognitions make me feel that honest and sincere efforts get noticed globally irrespective of where they are being made. These appreciations give me strength to carry on with my pursuit of educating the poor," Anand told TOI on Wednesday.
American Mathematical Society (AMS) has also written about Anand in the latest edition of 'Math Digest'. "Anand Kumar transformed the heartbreak of his own unfulfilled academic dreams into inspiration for lifting up smart but disadvantaged young students like he once had been," it reads. AMS has also noted with appreciation that Anand, despite opposition from Mafiosi, has been teaching mathematics to poor children and with his small team has been able to send 212 students from mostly poor families to IITs so far.
Earlier, Time magazine described Super-30 as the 'Best of Asia' while another magazine 'Newsweek' listed it in the four innovative schools of the world.
This IIT-JEE preparatory coaching school provides free rigorous training for nearly a year to 30 talented, but poor, students every year.
