Bihar Assembly elections: Polling for 5th phase begins

Patna, Nov 9 : Polling for the fifth phase of Bihar Assembly elections began at 0700 hrs today in 35 constituencies located in nine districts amid tight security arrangements, including air and water surveillance and shoot at sight orders for the trouble mongers.

The polling for the six-phased elections began at peaceful note and no untoward incident has so far been reported from any corner.

The voters, including men and women, were queuing up at the polling booths to exercise their franchise. Altogether, 1,00,47,974 voters, including 46,07,843 females are expected to cast their vote at 10,716 polling booths through 25,015 EVMs during the day.

At some polling booths, technical snag in EVMs were reported.

However, they were replaced by the polling officers. Reports of poll boycott by voters in protest against non development of their areas were also pouring in.

State Director General of Police Neelmani said here today that four army choppers were doing rounds along with the special task force to keep an eye in the Maoist hit constituencies facing polls.

Apart from this, the security personnel were patrolling in rivers through motor boats.

The polling would end at 1700 hrs in 21 constituencies, while in other 14 constituencies namely Atri, Rajauli, Govindpur, Arwal, Kurtha, Jehanabad, Ghosi, Mkahdumpur Bodh Gaya, Phulwari, Masaurhi, Paliganj, Vikram and Islampur, the polling would conclude at 1500 hrs following security reasons.

Meanwhile, Joint election officer Kumar Anshumali said polling is being videographed and webcast in sensitive polling booths.
