Polling in the sixth and final phase of Bihar election began on Saturday morning in the 26 constituencies spread across five districts.
18 out of 26 constituencies have been declared Maoist-affected, where polling will end at 3.00 pm instead of normal 5.00 pm.
About six million voters are eligible to vote in this round and will seal the fate of 426 candidates in Electronic Voting machine (EVM).
Contest on Seats:
Congress and BSP are contesting on all 26 seats while RJD and LJP combination have 22 and four candidates respectively.
JD (U)-BJP alliance have field 16 and 10 candidates while NCP on 17, CPI on 7 and CPI-M's two candidates are in the fray.
Key Contestants:
Speaker of the outgoing assembly and JD (U) leader Uday Narayan Chaudhary (Imamganj), BJP minister Awadhesh Narayan Singh (Dehri), JD (U) Ministers Chhedi Paswan (Mohania) and Anil Kumar (Tekari).
Security arrangements:
Hundred percent deployment of Central Para-military force in naxal-hit Gaya and Aurangabad districts. Four BSF helicopters, including a MI-17 And a Dhruv, stationed at Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas and Kaimur district with STF commandos for air surveillance.
BSF sniffer dogs and CRPF bomb detection and disposal squads are present. Other districts have deployment between 90 and 95 per cent while remaining district are covered by regular armed forces.
Meanwhile, Maoists triggered a blast in Sherghati constituency in Gaya disitrict in which two security personnel were injured, police said.
In a separate incident in Sasaram in Rohtas district, six suspected Maoists were arrested with arms early Saturday. Barring these stray incidents, polling was by and large peaceful early morning.
Earlier, the five phase elections were passed peacefully except for some incidents of violence.
Caste arithmetic, rampant corruption, rule of law and development play a key role in this final phase.
While Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who heads the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), has alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for company, Lalu Prasad has tied up with Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
But the region, infamous for caste massacres due to rivalry between the Maoists and the upper caste militia Ranvir Sena, also has strong pockets of supporters of the Bahujan Samaj Party of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (CPI-ML).
The counting of vote will start on November 24.
