Islamabad launches major cleanliness campaign
Saturday, May 14, 2011 9:44:02 AM by IANS ( Leave a comment )Islamabad, May 14 (IANS) The Pakistani capital has launched a massive cleanliness campaign that would include putting new dustbins across the city and imposing fines on people for littering and strewing garbage, particularly in and around markets.
Banners would be put up across the city and and pamphlets distributed to create awareness among the people. The campaign by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) would also impose fines on people if they are found spreading garbage, Online news agency reported.
Captain Muhammad Faiz, director of sanitation, said the cleanliness campaign would begin in the capital’s market areas. Teams have been formed to launch a cleanliness drive and machinery acquired from the department of environment.
More than 500 new dustbins would be set up in the capital, he said.
