Corporates must speak out against corruption: Gopinath

BANGALORE: It was a programme to honour five persons with the `pride of Karnataka' award. But with most of the awardees involved in social service and in the fight against corruption in one way or the other, the discussion naturally turned towards the `hot topic' that has captured the nation's imagination of late.

Aviation entrepreneur Capt Gopinath, who had fought the parliamentary elections on the anti-corruption plank, on Friday urged enterpreneurs to fight the corruption menace. "We have to quickly stand up and speak out, instead of remaining in cocoons of comfort. Corporates need to speak about corruption. This is the only way we can preserve the freedom our forefathers bestowed upon us," he said.

Activist Dr H Sudarshan, another awardee, observed that lack of authentic people has been the bane of society and called upon people to realize happiness by giving back to the world they live in.

Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde rued that societal values have fallen badly and something needs to be done to reverse that.

Billiards and snooker champion Pankaj Advani and Miss Earth 2010 Nicole Faria were the other awardees, instituted by Round Table India.
