NEW DELHI: In an effort to sensitise people towards environmental issues and climate change, the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) on Friday brought out a calender for 2011 on the theme of India's endangered species.
Speaking about the calendar, I&B minister Ambika Soni said it was in tune with India's position on conservation of endangered animals. "This (protecting endangered animals) has been the subject of debate in Cancun, Copenhagen and other such forums. We hope to sensitise people towards environmental concerns and climate change," she added.
The calendar will be distributed to village panchayats and school eco-clubs. About 12 lakh calendars are being printed for distribution. The endangered species that have been featured in the calendar include the Asiatic lion, Indian one-horned rhino, swamp deer or barasingha, black necked crane, snow leopard and Olive Ridley turtle.
The calendar brought out by the ministry for 2010 was based on the theme empowerment of women through the government's flagship and other programmes. Each month dealt with one flagship programme of the government and depicted the role of women in it.
