India set to win UNSC seat in today's elections

New York: India is all set to win a temporary seat on the United Nations (UN) Security Council after a span of 19 years.
In Tuesday's vote, five of 10 non-permanent seats will be filled. All 10 countries are elected to the two-year post and elections to the 5 seats will take place today.
India is expecting an easy win with no other challenger from Asia, after Kazakhstan pulled out earlier this year. The two seats for Western Europe and others group are being fought for by Canada, Germany and Portugal, while African, Asian and Latin American seats are going uncontested.
India's main ambition remains a permanent seat in the Security Council. India still needs 128 votes to be formally elected, but it is confident. India will replace Japan if the elected.
Tuesday's election could produce South Africa, India and Brazil Alliance.
