MAPUSA: Seeking to capitalize on the pro-Anna Hazare mood, the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded for a special assembly session to discuss and pass the Goa Lokayukta Bill.

Speaking at a public meeting at Mapusa on Friday evening, BJP leaders demanded for a state Lokayukta, while supporting Anna Hazare and his campaign for the Jan Lokpal bill to fight against corruption.

Speakers also appealed to those present to bring the BJP back to power in the state "to put an end to corruption."

Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar asked the people to support Hazare's anti-corruption movement.

"Imbibe the spirit of Anna to fight corruption. The people of Goa have the golden opportunity to end corruption by bringing the BJP to power as the elections are near," he said.

"Corruption is finishing the state. In the past four years, only 2,000 jobs have been created in the private sector in Goa. Industrialists are shying away from investing in Goa because of corruption," Parrikar said.

BJP state unit president Laximikant Parsekar accused the Congress of corruption "Corruption is the only thing Congress has given to the people of Goa and India," he said.

"Lokayukta is the need of the hour to end this. After seeing Congress leaders indulging in corruption, it is time for people to decide and vote the BJP to power," he said.
