Jaipur: As many as 42 judicial officers serving in various courts of Rajasthan are facing departmental inquiries for misconduct during the last financial year. Rajasthan is second after Uttar Pradesh in the list of states with the highest number of departmental inquiries pending against judicial officials.

According to latest data released by the Supreme Court on administrative and disciplinary action against judicial officers during the period from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011, as many as 305 judicial officers of the rank of district judge/chief judicial magistrate serving in various courts of the country are facing departmental inquiries for misconduct.

Uttar Pradesh tops the list with 44, followed by Rajasthan (42), Madhya Pradesh (33), Maharashtra (31), J&K (23), Gujarat (22), Tamil Nadu (19) and AP (15). While there are no departmental inquiries pending in Delhi, Sikkim and Lakshadweep.

With 15 judicial officers prematurely retired in the state, Rajasthan is second after Chhattisgarh where 16 judicial officers were retired at age of 50 years.
