Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who recently visited ailing famous TOI cartoonist, R K Laxman at the Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai, is being criticized by the media fraternity for using a sick man to promote his forthcoming flick ‘Khatta Meetha.’

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who recently visited ailing famous TOI cartoonist, R K Laxman at the Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai, is being criticized by the media fraternity for using a sick man to promote his forthcoming flick ‘Khatta Meetha.’

After seeing the picture of Akshay standing alongside the 86-year-old’s bed and smiling, VJ Nikhil Chinapa tweeted, “Just saw the front page of Bombay Times. I'm repulsed to see what lengths Bollywood goes to, to promote a film. Poor R K Laxman looks terrible.”

Even film critic Rajeev Masand has not taken kindly to Akshay’s sudden act of generosity and wrote, “Need innovative ideas 2 promote films in competitive times? But Akshay Kumar grinning like a jackass at R K Laxman's
hospital bed is a new low.”

Akshay surprised with media’s reaction
On one hand media fraternity is busy accusing Akshay for using meeting with the ailing cartoonist for the promotion of this upcoming film.

While on the other hand, actor is finding it hard to believe that media has turned his simple visit into such a nasty thing.

Akshay provided explanation for his visit in a statement: “I was invited by Mr Laxman's family and press to visit him in the hospital, as they thought it would be nice to meet the man that is bringing to life his legendary comic.

And anyone who sees my smile by his bedside in any other way other than love has a cold judgmental heart and I can only pity them.”

Akshay’s upcoming movie directed by Priyadarshan, ‘Khatta Meetha’ is based on Laxman’s ‘Common Man’ and is slated to be released on July 23.

Amitabh supports Akshay on twitter
When everyone is ready to think worse of Akshay, only Big B has come out in open to support him.

He posted message on his twitter page in actor’s support and even chided journalists who have started calling Akshay a “jackass.”

“Your fraternity will never pull you up for calling Akshay a ‘jackass’. Ever thought if the reverse were to be done ... would your fraternity have spared Akshay if he were to address you as one?” actor had tweeted.
