Professor's comment sparks communal clash in J&K

JAMMU: Eighteen people, mostly security personnel, were injured on Friday in stone-pelting by protesters agitating against an alleged blasphemous comment made by a professor in Bhaderwah town of Doda district.
Protests were held after president of Anjuman Islamia Shahid Hussain got injured in communal clashes triggered by the comment on Wednesday.
ASP Bhaderwah Roop Raj Bhagat said that 16 security personnel received minor injures, when protesters pelted stones at them. Police later resorted to tear-gas shells to disperse the mob, injuring two civilians. Bhaderwah is the home constituency of Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who took stock of the situation on Friday.
Doda, Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Kishtwar towns observed a shut down and demonstrations were held at some places. J&K government has ordered a magisterial probe.
