Docs paid more than bureaucrats in Rajasthan-Govt/The new payscales would be implemented in accordance with the recent agreement between doctors and government.
Jaipur: Less may be more for some, but for doctors in Rajasthan even most does not seem to be enough.
In Rajasthan, doctors get the highest salary (and we are not counting the gains from private practice and commissions), among all government employees, even much more than bureaucrats on probation.
The new payscales would be implemented in accordance with the recent agreement between doctors and government.
During their probation, doctors get `16,800 as salary and `13,200 as special medical allowance, making it a total of `30,000. This is almost 30% higher than what an IAS officer gets during probation.
An IAS officer, during his 2-year probation period, gets `22,400 per month. This includes the basic salary component of `15,600 and 50% dearness allowance.
Also, unlike IAS officers, doctors in Rajasthan don’t have to serve probation for two years. Their one year of internship is counted as one year of probation. Therefore, the doctors’ effective probation period is just one year.
The salary of an RAS officer on probation is peanuts in comparison.
As per the state service rules, an RAS officer gets `16,800 during probation. Also, RAS officers get promotion once every nine years, while the doctors are entitled to it every six years.
For instance, if an RAS officer is appointed as a sub divisional officer (SDO) he will have to wait for nine years to be promoted on the additional district magistrate (ADM).
And, when it comes to postings, doctors get the best deal.
The state government will not appoint medical specialists in rural areas; they will only be appointed in towns and cities. All other officials do not enjoy this privilege.
