….can these forthcoming 7matches will create 28yr’s old hysteria and magic?????

Cricket is like religion in our country which unites our large population despite of all religion, cast, creed,or region. With time it has merged boundaries and emerged as a passion for sports fans, specially cricket admirers of South asia….and many other countries as World cup or IPL made it more effective and popular. Its popularity reaches to different countries which are participating here annually. Its a other side of coin that commercialization of cricket,i.e IPL had killed its purity.

In cricket bussiness was always there but glamour and fatafat shots do distracts the audience to have patience to watch classic test matches And techniques of 50-50.

I am writing with Indian teams perspective. In last 42 matches played yet in 2011 cricket world cup .Indian team has shown no outstanding performance in any matches as a team in totality except few of their players contributions are exceptional in every matches as a match saviour.I must praise Yuvraj singh,Zaheer khan,sachin..for his match saving performances. But its not a world class spectacular show.Infact other teams of group B or A have not done better.Fluctuations in score board are quite interesting, but in case of own country its heart sinking—losing 9wickets in 29 runs against south Africa, losing 7wickets in 50runs against westindies, tie between England which seems to be a comfortable win one time…but in last few overs it we thought opposite.Only after 48th over it picked up!!Good we got one point.

It shows that when Indian team is blessed with a batting line-up that is the envy of many but neither mere strength nor headstrong reputation will fetch results and this is something that would hit hard.Collapses are indeed part of the game but the dramatic manner in which these wickets fall.I hope they play full 50overs in further matches and be crisp in taking catches and stoping singles besides our known “jaddu’ of spinners, pacebowlers….and few experiments.

Sachin’s performance is unquestionable whether it resulted in teams win or not. Though we want the little master to be a part of the Indian Cricket team forever, unfortunately, age is something that would come in between. So maybe this being the last World Cup for Sachin, who has done a lot for cricket in our country, Indian team can surely win this title for him and dedicate the victory to him. Also Tendulkar himself wants to do it for his nation because he thinks that he has done almost every thing possible for the nation except for winning this biggie.I am repeating these lines from my last article.

Here I must praise 3times “man of the match” Yuvraj Singh by quoting ex-cricketer Mr Madanlal’s words–“Yuvraj has taken the responsibility with a flair. He is the most trusted match winner in the team now. There was lot of talk surrounding his attitude before the tournament but he has silenced his critics.Don’t put pressure and allow him to make the most of his excellent form.” As Yuvraj said: “It’s going to be the match of this World Cup… I don’t expect anything less.”…Form, of course, has everything to do with Yuvraj’s rise. With 284 runs (average of 94.66) and nine wickets, he’s been the star performer for Team India in this World Cup.Till around a fortnight ago, Yuvraj was No.3, behind Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Now, he’s up to No.2, displacing the captain!!Well I don’t believe in number’s game much but.….keep it up Yuvi.

“The game really changed once Zaheer gave us the breakthrough “Dhoni said “After that we could apply pressure from both ends, and eventually we got more wickets than we needed and we seized the game in the end.” Wishing Indian team for continuation of this spell for next 3 matches.Stay fit and play well.

Stay fit and play well.(23/3/11)

Congratulations for india’s win in Q/Finals.Now 2more steps…great to see whole team performing well as a unit.Kudos goes to the captain for it.I wish even individually he should perform better next time but one need to pat Yuvraj for his outstanding allround performance including.sachin, suresh raina, gautam gambhir, zaheer, ashwin….and others. In the begining of Worldcup I had wished Yuvraj,Gautam and Indian team to come back in form and stay fit and perform well…country needs world cup.

Though its a sports and one should take results with sportsmanspirit…this is what we all learn from Games

With one country domination over after Australia’s decline, Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara feels that 2011 Cricket World Cup in the sub-continent is going to be one of the most competitive and open one.

“Yes, World Cup next year going to be the most competitive in recent times for a number of reasons.

“Australia have been defeated all around the world. The domination of spin in the sub-continent is also not what it used to be earlier as a lot of teams play spin better now. And for the sub-continent teams, the format of the tournament make it very competitive,” said Sangakkara in a teleconference with journalists from Sri Lanka.

He stressed on the importance of cricketers’ support for the Think Wise initiative, a joint partnership between the ICC, UNAIDS, UNICEF and the Global Media AIDS Initiative that has been running since 2003, which aims to raise awareness around HIV prevention and eliminate discrimination against people living HIV and AIDS.

“It is very important because many people living with HIV live in cricket-playing countries. It is something that you cannot escape no matter where we play and the lack of awareness and low sense of risk are some of the factors that contribute to high risk taking, making particularly young people in the 15-24 year age group vulnerable to infection,” said the cricketer.

Dinner diplomacy at Mohali

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The much-anticipated summit meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan will take place over an early dinner on Wednesday, said government sources.

After watching the India-Pakistan Cricket World Cup semi-final match for a brief while in the evening, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will invite his visiting Pakistani counterpart, Yousuf Raza Gilani, for dinner, during which both sides are expected to touch on the future of bilateral ties and the steps required to give them an impetus after the Foreign Secretary-level meeting in Thimphu in February, added the sources.

In line with the position adopted by the foreign offices of both countries, the sources maintained that there was no intention of raising expectations, given the complicated relationship that has had many false starts. At the same time, both sides were avoiding comments that would invite a riposte. This, they pointed out, was in evidence on the first day of the Interior/Home Secretary talk

Sri Lanka have reached their second successive World Cup final, and though they were blown away by Adam Gilchrist’s whirlwind century in the previous one, in 2007, their vice-captain Mahela Jayawardene said they had done really well since that setback. “Gilly did play that brilliant knock and we never had the opportunity to get into the game. It was an unfortunate episode. We have put it behind us and moved on.

“We are really motivated to be consistent and, to be right here in the final, speaks volumes about our character.”

Put “ancient animosities” behind, says PM at dinner meet with Gilani

Press Trust Of India

Mohali, March 31, 2011

Buoyed by his cricket diplomacy, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that India and Pakistan should put their “ancient animosities” behind them and work for a “permanent reconciliation” and “cooperative solutions” to their problems. Speaking at a dinner he hosted for his Pakistani counterpart Yusuf R
aza Gilani last night on the margins of India-Pakistan World Cup cricket semi final match here, Singh said the two neighbouring countries “should be working together to find cooperative solutions and need permanent reconciliation to live together in dignity and honour”.

“We should put our ancient animosities behind us to attend to the problems of our nations,” he said.

Singh later said that “the beautiful game of cricket” has been a “uniting factor” in bringing together the two prime ministers.

“Cricket”, the Prime Minister told a TV channel, “has been a uniting factor. It has brought our two PMs together and I daresay that’s a very good beginning”.

Rs 45 Crore Tax Waiver to ICC: Aam Aadmi Govt bats for Pawar & Co , Cabinet clears tax breaks for ICC-1/4/11

With Pawar batting, Cabinet clears tax breaks for ICC

The government on Thursday approved a request from the International Cricket Council seeking tax exemption for World Cup cricket matches in India, but the proposal encountered strong criticism in the Union Cabinet meeting with Sports Minister Ajay Maken and some others questioning the logic of granting tax benefits to a sporting event that commercially makes crores of rupees in revenue and never lacks in sponsoring companies.

Supported by senior colleagues like Kumari Selja and Ambika Soni, sources said the Sports Minister’s argument was funds that would have become available had the tax exemption not been given, could have been used to cross-subsidise other sporting events where sponsorship is hard to find. Buttressing his argument, he is said to have further pointed out that his ministry’s budget had been significantly reduced this time, which put pressure on funds available for sporting events other than cricket.

Sources said Maken also raised doubts over whether the projected surplus earning of $201 million (approximately Rs 900 crore) given by ICC was accurate.

In its proposal, the ICC said that 60 per cent of this income will be raised from matches in India. I&B Minister Ambika Soni told a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting that the financial implication because of the tax exemption would

be about Rs 45 crore, based on the estimates given by

the ICC.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday left for Mumbai to watch the World Cup final, but not before praying at Tirumala temple here for his team’s success in the match against India. Accompanied by his wife, the visiting dignitary, who had a ‘darshan’ of Lord Venkateswara and offered spe
cial puja Friday evening, participated in the special rituals Saturday morning.

Rajapaksa, an ardent devotee of the deity, participated in ‘suprabhatam’, the first rituals of the day amidst chanting of the Vedic hymns. According to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which manages the affairs of India’s richest temple, suprabhatam seva is performed to wake up the Lord from his celestial sleep.

The Sri Lankan president stayed overnight atop Tirumala Hills after offering prayers Friday evening.

Rajapaksa later left for Mumbai by the special aircraft from the Renigunta airport. He will watch the final at the Wankhede Stadium along with his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil.

A large number of Indian fans too offered prayers and organised special ‘yagyams’ in the temple town. Holding the Indian flag and pictures of players, they also took out a huge rally.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, himself a cricket player during his college days, also visited Tirupati to offer prayers. However, officials said his visit was a routine one and had nothing to do with the match.

Reddy told reporters he was confident that India would win the World Cup after 29 years. He conveyed his best wishes to the team.

Self-belief was the key to Team India’s triumph-(this is what even i suggessted them in a blog and it applies on anyone…VT)
Self-belief was the key to Team India’s
triumph

Tonight I can write the happiest lines. We are the ODI world champions. On Saturday at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, we regained the World Cup after a gap of 28 years.

The triumph highlighted the power of the collective team effort. Who would have imagined Team India chasing down a target of 275 with 10 balls to spare, with almost negligible contributions from Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar?

As for skipper MS Dhoni, I can only say, cometh the hour, cometh the man. Let us accept this, once and for all: the man has the Midas touch. We can debate for ages whether he should have played Sreesanth or not. And I know that everybody would have castigated him for promoting himself above the in-form Yuvraj Singh. The point is, like any good leader, MSD takes a decision and then stick to it. If he manages to get the right result every time, who are we to question him. Like any true leader, Dhoni always leads from the front. He is forthright and honest. That’s what makes him special. Now he has won every prize in cricket. Surely, India is blessed to have a skipper like him.

What was special about our team? Self-belief, for one. During the entire tournament, Team India kept the faith. Many of us despaired after we lost the toss under controversial circumstances. Many of us felt that 275 was a hard, if not impossible, target. Not the Men in Blue. They achieved the goal with calm and poise. Every run was hard fought but they never seemed to panic.

Each of the players who had not scored heavily in the earlier games came to the party on Saturday. Dhoni played the most special innings of his career. It will be compared with the great Steve Waugh innings of the 1999 semi-final against South Africa. Gambhir would always rue the shot he played to get out for 97 but the nation would always remember his innings as among the most valuable in the history of Indian cricket. Even young Kohli fared well.

All our bowlers, barring Sreesanth, did a fantastic job till the 46th over. Then they lost the plot in the last four overs conceding 54 runs. The odds were perhaps 55-45 in favour of the Lankans at that stage. And 70-30 when the openers got out. But then Team India had other ideas.

There is much more to write and comment on. This was Yuvraj Singh’s championship. He proved that winners never quit and that quitters never win. May be in a couple of days, I will write a performance report of every player. Right now, let us just enjoy the moment. This is one of my happiest moments as an Indian. I know it is yours too.

(CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL.FEW DAYS BACK HE WAS ON TIME MAGAZINE’S LIST OF POWERFUL PEOPLE ALSO. I HOPE IT GO ON BUT…..ONE THING WHICH WAS UNSTOPABLE WAS “AUCTION”FORMAT OF CRICKET PLAYERS IN “IPL’….!!! CAN’T SAY IF ANY OTHER SPORTS OF ANY COUNTRY HAS THIS SYSTEM,BUT SOMEHOW AUCTION OF ANY HUMAN BEING DOESN’T SOUND ‘”HEALTHY OR PRAISEWORTHY WAY OF GETING SOLD OR SELL YOUR PRIORITIES FOR PEOPLE WHO HAS BOUGHT YOU”….IT IS SOMEWAY REFLECTS THE MINDSET OF OLD TRADITION OF “GULAM BIKKRII”….OR “BONDED LABOURERS”…..!!! WELL IF WE WORK FOR ANYONE AND GET SALARIES,INDIRECTLY YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CERTAIN LOYALTY ABOUT THAT INDIVIDUAL/COMPANY OR WHERE EVER/WHOMEVER ONE WORK….BUT GETTING SOLD/BOUGHT/AUCTIONED….IS BIT “RACIST” KIND OF “OPERATION OF WHOLE PROCESS WHICH NEED TO BE CHANGED”.I HOPE INSTEAD OF BECOMING ONLY “MONEY MAKING MACHINES”…PLAYERS AND ALL WHO ARE PART OF IT THINK TO GET THE FORMAT CHANGED IN MORE DIGNIFIED FORMAT…..TO NOT GET SOLD LIKE COMMODITIES/ANIMALS/BIRDS/PRODUCTS/IDEAS …ETC.

ITS POPULARITY DO MADE ME THINK ONE CAN HAVE IPL OF OTHER SPORTS ALSO WITHOUT GETTING “AUCTIONED”,WHICH REALLY “PAINS ME”…SPONSORED BY DIFFERENT SECTORS….TO PROMOTE FINANCIAL HEALTH OF THAT GAMES INCLUDING ITS QUALITIES AND DISCOVER DOMESTIC LEVEL TALENTS FOR NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL GAMES.RECENTLY I HAVE SEEN A REPORT THAT FOR IPL MATCH IN INDORE, FOOTBALL TEAM WHICH HAS NATIONAL LEVEL PLAYERS WERE CLEANING CHAIRS FOR MONEY TO HELP THEIR FOOTBALL TEAM FINANCIALLY.ITS QUITE A SAD SCENE.SAD FOR SPORTS OF OUR COUNTRY WHERE WE HAVE MULTI CRORES CWG SCAMS??/….NEED TO OVERCOME FROM SUCH PROBLEMS WITH THE HELP OF SPORTS AUTHORITY AND DIFFERENT SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS/FEDERATIONS/PRIVATE SPONSORS….ETC.

WELL,SPORTS IS AN “OFFBEAT’ PROFESSION OR HOBBY!!…GOOD FOR SOCIAL HEALTH,ENTERTAINMENT,PHYSICAL FITNESS,HEART,SOUL AND MIND AND SOMEHOW ADD ON IN COUNTRY’S PRIDE.GIVE JOB OPPORTUNITIES TO MANY AND IF IT NEEDS INVESTMENT,THEN IT GENERATE REVENUES AS WELL BUT DEFINITLY IT WON’T BECOME PRIMARY FOCUS,CONCERN,OR MATTER OF NATIONAL OBSESSION ALONE!!!…..OTHER POINTS ARE THERE TO GET EVERYONE’S ATTENTION MORE URGENTLY….LIKE OUR BASIC LIVILIHOOD AND ROUTINE LIFE…AND ITS DEMANDS….WHICH ARE ALSO A SOCIAL/NATIONAL PROBLEMS….AND ITS SOLUTIONS.

Highlighting the importance of sports for the physical and mental development of youth, chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that sports provides ample opportunity to imbibe team spirit, discipline, coordination and zest for achieving their goals.

“Sports provide ample opportunity to young persons to imbibe the team spirit, discipline, coordination and zest for achieving the goal,” Omar said speaking at a function in Jammu.

He said athletics and non-traditional sports should also be promoted besides cricket, football and hockey.

Appreciating the Jammu and Kashmir police for encouraging sports activities in the state, the chief minister said, “It is praise worthy that despite the difficult nature of your service, you give due attention to the promotion of sports and participate in the national and international events.”
