Sania-Gallovits clinch doubles title at Guangzhou

Guangzhou: India's Sania Mirza and Romania's Edina Gallovits clinched the $220,000 Guangzhou International Women's Open tennis doubles title here on Sunday.
Sania-Gallovits beat China's Xinyun Han and Wanting Liu 7-5, 6-3 and claimed $11,000 and 280 WTA points.
The two had stormed into the final with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Ukrain's Olga Savchuk and Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn.
Sania had also reached the quarterfinals in the singles here. This is her first title ever since her marriage to Shoaib Malik. She is also in contention for a medal at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi this October.
Sania Mirza today gained 15 places in the WTA singles rankings to be 129th and jumped 20 positions in the doubles to 67th after a good show at the Guangzhou International Open in China.
