Seven hardcore Maoists surrender in Chhattisgarh

Kanker (Chhattisgarh), Jan 30 (PTI) AS many as seven hardcore Maoists, including four women, who are members of the Bastar Divisional Committee, today surrendered at the district headquarters here over "operational issues" with their counterparts, a top official said. "The surrendered ultras carry a cash reward of varying amounts from Rs 5,000 to Rs 3 lakh. This is the first time that the members of the divisional committee have surrendered before police," Bastar range Inspector General of Police Lang Kumer told PTI. Among those surrendered are the active members of the Bastar Division Committee Sunil Kumar Matlam and his wife Jaini alias Jayanti who also happens to be the commander of Corar area Committee; Jan Militia commander of Partapur range Ramdas and his wife Panidobir, Kolibeda deputy commander Susheela, Sitapur LOS commander Jaylal and his wife Asmani alias Sanay, besides member of the platoon no 25 being operational in Raoghat area, Samo Mandvi. All of them surrendered before the IG and Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat. "Sunil was active in Corer area and has had 46 cases registered against him in the last eleven years, while his wife Jayanti too has a number of cases, ranging from launching attacks on police teams, murder, looting, arson, pending against her in the last three years," said Bhagat. Similarly, other ultras namely Ramdas, his wife Susheela have eleven and twelve cases registered against them, respectively. Another naxalite Jaylal and his wife Asmani too have three cases each registered against them with Koylibeda station. "The naxals were in touch with police and were encouraged to surrender and their rehabilitation was assured as per government rules," the SP said. "The naxals fell out with their cadres mainly on the operational issues which included discrimination on regional lines besides the hardships they have to face for staying in hiding from police," said Bhagat.
