Israel and Bihar inspire BJP’s vision for UP

The BJP has promised to adopt the “Israel model” for development in Bundelkhand and “Bihar model” for positive change in eastern UP in its vision documents for the state, released by party chief Nitin Gadkari here today.

The document also underlines the need for strengthening the cooperative movement for betterment of weavers, artisans and small and marginal farmers in UP on the pattern of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. The party has also promised to convert all four-lane roads into six lanes and two lanes roads into four lanes if voted to power in the Assembly elections. The documents focus on “rural security”, promising to strengthen the chowkidar system in villages and reward villages that are selected as “crime-free and FIR-free”.

Releasing the vision documents, Gadkari said his party wanted to change the future of the state. “You can donate eyes, but can’t donate the vision,” Gadkari told the gathering. The 21st century is for development politics, he said. According to him, UP needs adequate power supply to revolutionise agriculture.

Referring to AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s “begging” remarks, he highlighted the long rule of the Congress party in the country as well as in Uttar Pradesh. “Who is responsible for the poor condition of UP?” he asked. He also criticised the SP and Congress for promising hike in quota for Muslims. “The quota can’t exceed 50 per cent. How can they give the quota?” He reiterated his party’s stand that it would oppose religion-based reservation.

According to the vision document, development in Bundelkhand would be inspired by the “Israel model”. If voted to power, the BJP plans to seek the help of Israeli scientists, who have successfully cultivated cash crops and flowers on desert land. “More crop per drop” is the party’s target.

The party plans to develop tourism in Bundelkhand, keeping in mind a Planning Commission report, according to which the region has more heritage sites than Rajasthan.

For eastern UP, the party has cited the “Bihar model” for development. Highlighting the Bihar government’s special focus on infrastructure development, the party has promised to adopt the same model to bring positive changes in eastern UP.

Incidentally, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is an ally of the BJP-headed NDA, will campaign in UP to seek votes in favour of his party JD (U).
