NEW DELHI: Even as the agitating Naga students are all set to temporarily lift the blockade of two national highways passing through Nagaland and connecting Manipur, the Centre has called chief secretaries of both states for an emergency meeting on Wednesday to review the situation and discuss ways to ferry essential items in the shortest possible time.
The economic blockade has pushed Manipur to the verge of breakdown with stocks of all essentials commodities, including baby food and life saving drugs, almost drying up. “The home ministry, in the meeting to be chaired by home secretary G K Pillai, will decide the next course of action. Meanwhile, Food Corporation of India (FCI) has been asked to release additional foodgrain for the state,” said an official.
He said the government was now prepared to resume supply of essential items through a convoy of trucks under tight security along the national highways.
