Peepli [Live] moment: Directors ‘out’-17/10/10
It may be India’s official entry to the Oscars, but all is not well with Peepli [Live]. Unhappy with how things shaped up with producer Aamir Khan, the husband-wife team of filmmakers Anusha Rizvi and Mahmood Farooqui has “removed ourselves” from it.
The reason for the differences with Aamir is, ironically, similar to what Peepli [Live] explores — limelight, and the long shadow it casts.
“Those who wanted the money, fame and credits wanted it more than us, so we left it to them and returned to Delhi,” Farooqui, co-director and casting director, said at Idea Exchange at The Indian Express.
Director Rizvi said she was unhappy with the presentation of the titles and acknowledgements.
The duo had problems with the final edit, where Aamir had the last word. “He said it was there in the contract. If you make a Peepli [Live], morally it can’t be Aamir Khan’s film. He should not be even wanting to morally own it,” said Farooqui.
