Chidambaram pays surprise visit to Delhi Police headquarters

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) Home Minister P. Chidambaram paid a surprise visit to the Delhi Police headquarters here Tuesday evening to discuss the security arrangements for the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games with Police Commissioner Y.S.Dadwal.

“He (Chidambaram) visited the police headquarters around 8 p.m. to discuss the security preparations with senior officials for the Commonwealth Games,” said Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat.

Earlier in the day, Chidambaram reviewed security arrangements with top officials including chiefs of intelligence agencies.

The meeting was attended by Home Secretary G.K. Pillai, chiefs of the Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing, Delhi Police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal and officials dealing with CWG security and internal security.

“Everything is looked after,” a confident Dadwal told reporters. Chidambaram later toured the 24X7 Control Room for the Games set up in North Block, which houses the home ministry.

Later in the evening, Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna also met the home minister.

Some 7,000 participants and officials from 71 countries and territories are expected to attend the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, India’s biggest sporting event after the 1982 Asian Games.
