Vadodara, September 20 A bachelor degree in science has helped me in the profession
A riot of caricatures of politicians and film stars mesmerised everyone at the M S University's (MSU) Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) department on Saturday, as cartoonist Sudhir Tailang stole the show.
“Cartoonists always make sketches of famous personalities. One of the most amusing and famous personalities is Modi. In the Gujarat Assembly election, he had shouted a slogan—mujhe fansi de dena, agar main maange na poori karoon (hang me if I don’t fulfil the goals). I drew a cartoon strip where Modi is shouting and Manmohan Singh is running away,” Tailang said.
Tailang began early, at the age of 10. Till now, he has covered around 10 Prime Ministers right from Mrs. Indira Gandhi to Manmohan Singh. He has an educational background in biology. “A bachelor degree in science has helped me in the profession. As a biologist, I dissected living beings including many frogs. Former prime minister Late P V Narasimha Rao had certain frog-like features,” he said with a smirk.
He said further, “Science makes one’s mind analytical and English literature makes an individual philosophical. Several such things make a cartoonist.”
Tailang said that no professional degree could make a cartoonist. “I always make caricatures that are for the common man, he said.
Tailang will be releasing a compilation of 150 cartoons on Manmohan Singh in his book ‘No Prime Minister’. “It takes six months for a prime minister to be a cartoon material. Everyone including Manmohan Singh has passed that acid test. I have invited Mr Singh to release the book and comment on the caricatures. It will be interesting see his comments since all of them are controversial,” Tailang added
