It is the smallest moon discovered orbiting Pluto. It has an estimated diameter of 13 to 34 km. By comparison, Charon - Pluto's largest moon - is 1,043 km across, and the other moons, Nix and Hydra, are in the range of 32 to 113 km in diameter.
"I find it remarkable that Hubble's cameras enabled us to see such a tiny object so clearly from a distance of more than three billion miles (or five billion km)," said Mark Showalter of the SETI Institute in California, who led the programme.
P4 is located between the orbits of Nix and Hydra, which Hubble discovered in 2005.
Charon was discovered in 1978 at the US Naval Observatory and first resolved using Hubble in 1990 as a separate body from Pluto.

PATNA: Bihar government on Thursday told the state assembly that altogether 54 children died of a mystery disease in around Muzaffarpur since June last.
The situation, however, was now under control, state minister Nand Kishore Yadav said on behalf of the government while replying to a call-attention notice of Ajit Kumar (JD-U).
Altogether 54 children died of the mystery disease which had not been diagnosed as yet, even as scientists from National Virology Laboratory in Pune and others collected the blood samples and brain tissues.
All the 54 children children died at Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital and Kejriwal Hospital in Muzaffarpur, he said.
Yadav said that while 32 persons lost their lives due to Kala Azar in Bihar this year, 11748 patients suffering from the disease have been diagnosed and treated.

The CM said that the politics of ‘Us’ and ‘Them’ will not be carried over to the new Bengal. She also added that a meeting of all political parties with representations in the state Assembly will be held on August 3 to proceed with the development of the state. Leader of the opposition party in the state assembly Surya Kanta Mishra said that the party had already extended its co-operation to the government. But the decision regarding the proposal will be taken only after receiving an invitation from them. |

At a closed door interaction with the members of Working Women's Forum (WWF) on Wednesday night, excerpts of which were released on Thursday, Clinton said: "I want to thank my friend and your friend, a wonderful woman who is viewed as a leader around the world, Jaya."
Appreciating the self help group and panchayat members for their work in promoting democracy, Clinton said, referring to the chief minister: "This is a woman who has worked so hard. And all of you will have to decide how you can follow her model, so that you not only help yourselves and your families but you spread the word about microfinance, about bank accounts, about starting businesses, about getting health services, about empowering the women of this state, and giving everyone a chance to live up to your god-given potential."
Clinton, who arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday and flew down to Chennai for her maiden visit the next day, said she is honoured to celebrate the accomplishments of WWF in bringing micro-credit, healthcare and other services.

She said Goldman Sachs, a global financial company, has decided to support a training programme through the Indian School of Business to help self-help groups bring even more knowledge and skills about how to take their businesses from the very local village level to the cities and the rest of the world.

Supporting a strong Lokpal, Infosys Technologies Chairman Emeritus N R Narayana Murthy today said reduction in corruption leads to faster economic growth of a country and this could have been the case in India also if graft had been curbed.
"If we could have reduced the corruption in the country, we could have clocked a GDP growth of anywhere between 8.5 to 10 per cent," he said.
Economists have explained and established that corruption is likely to reduce the GDP growth rate of a country by anywhere between 0.5 per cent to 1.5 per cent, Murthy said, while delivering the 32nd Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Lecture on 'Towards a Corruption Free India'.
"The double-digit growth that has eluded India could had been ours if we had combated corruption."
Washington-based think-tank Global Financial Integrity recently released a report that India has lost a staggering $462 billion in illicit financial flows abroad due to tax evasion, crime and corruption since Independence, Murthy said, quoting the report.
"Combating corruption at this stage is very significant. For the first time in last 300 years, India has received some recognition from the world, raising hopes that we could alleviate poverty."
Supporting an effective Lokpal, the IT czar said, "The institution of Lokpal, when fortified by honest and courageous people, is a good instrument for fighting corruption. So we must support all efforts of the government and Anna Hazare in arriving at a strong Lokpal Bill."

NEW DELHI: A pioneer of India's outsourcing industry and leader of one of country's biggest IT firms has argued that legalising paying bribes would help reduce endemic corruption in the South Asian country.
N.R. Narayana Murthy, chairman of Infosys, said he fully supported proposals from economist Kaushik Basu to make paying bribes legal because this would help members of the public blow the whistle on corrupt officials.
Under Basu's proposals receiving a bribe would remain illegal.
"If bribe giving, and not bribe taking, is made legal then the bribe giver shall indeed cooperate with the authorities to expose the bribe taker," Murthy said in a speech in the western city of Ahmedabad on Tuesday, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.
